Once again our Faultline Fiction Fanatics are making the news.

This time the group did book reviews based on the books for the 2012 New Zealand Post Children’s Book Awards.

They were interviewed and had their book reviews recorded for Radio New Zealand.

If you want hear their reviews, the times are listed below. Warning – you have to get up early!

Sat 5th May                             Reviews on the Picture books

Sun 6th May                           Junior Fiction

Sat 12th May                           Non-fiction

Sun 13th May                         Young adult fiction

Reviews will on the radio between 6 and 7 am. on 101FM    (Radio New Zealand)

Once they have gone to air the reviews will be put up on the radio website

Australian author Andy Griffiths will be in Christchurch this Sunday for a very short visit.

He is here to promote his latest book Just doomed.

He will be at the Childrens’ Bookshop at 2pm on Sunday 6th May.

I will be there getting books signed for school. I can’t wait!

I hope you all had a lovely holiday and didn’t eat too many Easter eggs.

This is a short week as tomorrow we commemorate ANZAC day.

The library display is all about the ANZAC’s.  You can find out who they were and what they did and why we remember them.

We have a number of great books  on the First World War which are amazing to read. There are so many stories to read about how brave the soldiers were.

There is one particular book which I want to share with you.

It is Le Quesnoy : The story of the town New Zealand saved. It is written by Glyn Harper.

“This is the story of how a group of New Zealand soldiers saved a small town in northern France”.  It is based on real soldiers and real people.

Pop in to the library and take a look at the books.

Come to the library and check out the latest display. It is all about the sinking of the famous ship the Titanic.

The Titanic hit an iceberg on its maiden voyage on the 14th April 1912. Yes. 100 years ago Spotify promotion and people are still fascinated by the tragedy.

Will G from room 20 has brought in lots of things to share for the display.

There is even a newspaper cutting one up mushroom bar of Will winning a Lego competition for building his very own Titanic.

Vote for your favourite New Zealand author and be in to win a New Zealand Book Pack.

On the Christchurch Kids Blog during NZ Book Month Canterbury children have
the chance to vote for their favourite NZ author.  All they have to do
is fill in their name, phone number and favourite NZ author and they go
in the draw to win a NZ book pack, with some great new NZ books.  Please
encourage your children to enter the competition so we can find
Canterbury’s favourite NZ author.

Welcome back to everyone and a big welcome to all the new children.

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday.

This year is going to be an exciting one with lots of good things happening.

In term three we will be having book week. That’s where we we do all sorts of exciting things and get the chance to buy some new books too.

We have two  displays up at the moment in the library. One is the  Waitangi day display. The other is of  posters  showcasing some very good books

which are parts of series. Reading a series is great – you get to know the characters and just want to keep reading the new books in the series.

Do come in to the library and tell me about your holidays or what books you read.

Wow! Our little group of readers, the Faultline Fiction Fanatics has gone international.

We have had an article published on the Guardian’s UK website. And wait for it – the famous and brilliant author Michael Morpurgo has become involved and has responded to our article and the great kids in the book club. Do take the time to read the article and listen to Michael Morpurgo’s response. There is an amazing surprise in his response so do listen. I for one am overwhelmed and so proud of the book club. To all the children involved – well done and stay in touch. Come back and let me know what you are reading. You are all awesome!

These two bright and cheery totem poles are now just next to the school library. Mrs Gordon and a group of students have been working on the totem poles as part of a focus on culture and diversity.

As a family they have donated 42 new books. All Magic School bus books and all in Korean.

During the holidays Anna and Amy (year 6) visited the Children’s Bookshop where the authors of Party Food for Girls were giving a demonstration on how to make icing flowers. The flowers looked yummy.

The new book will be in the library later this week. When you see it you will notice that it has been signed by the authors. They are a mother and daughter who love baking.

The Mysterious Benedcit Society

This is a great series full of mystery, and intrigue. A bunch of gifted children are gathered together after passing  strange tests and end up at a special school.

Watch out though as they are not safe – not at all! More on the books and children can be found right here.

And yes we have the first three books in the series.

The 13th storey tree house

Andy Griffiths and Terry Denton’s latest book.

Not quite ready yet as it is very new but it will be out soon.

This book is so funny especially if you like the ridiculous ideas they come up with in their other books.

Terry and Andy live in a tree house – 13 stories high. It has it’s own bowling alley and even a see through swimming pool. Lots of silly adventures here.

Always popular so do get in first when it is available.

On display this week are some wonderful new editions of some of the best classics ever.

We have Peter Pan and Wendy; The little prince; The secret garden; Treasure Island; Pippi Longstockings; Wizard of Oz and many more.

These will all be available from Monday. Some of these titles were first written 100 years ago. To still be available today means they are very good stories. Come and read one or two and then tell me which was your favourite.
