Welcome to term four

I hope you all had a lovely holiday and are eager to get stuck in  to an exciting last term for the year.

During the holidays Anna and Amy (year 6) visited the Children’s Bookshop where the authors of Party Food for Girls were giving a demonstration on how to make icing flowers. The flowers looked yummy.

The new book will be in the library later this week. When you see it you will notice that it has been signed by the authors. They are a mother and daughter who love baking.

Whale song

The longest whale song

By Jaqueline WIlson

Reviewed by Katie

Ella is a girl whose mum is in a deep coma after just having Samson. She has to stay with her hopeless stepfather as well as looking after her new half-brother Samson and worrying about her mum.

The only thing going right is Ella’s school project. It’s all about whales singing to each other. Maybe a whale song could reach mum, wherever she is and bring her back to Ella and Samson. Surely it’s worth a try isn’t it.

The 13th storey tree house

The 13th storey tree house

Andy Griffiths and Terry Denton’s latest book.

Not quite ready yet as it is very new but it will be out soon.

This book is so funny especially if you like the ridiculous ideas they come up with in their other books.

Terry and Andy live in a tree house – 13 stories high. It has it’s own bowling alley and even a see through swimming pool. Lots of silly adventures here.

Always popular so do get in first when it is available.

Classics

On display this week are some wonderful new editions of some of the best classics ever.

We have Peter Pan and Wendy; The little prince; The secret garden; Treasure Island; Pippi Longstockings; Wizard of Oz and many more.

These will all be available from Monday. Some of these titles were first written 100 years ago. To still be available today means they are very good stories. Come and read one or two and then tell me which was your favourite.

David Hill

We were so lucky to have New Zealand writer David Hill visit our school on Monday 22 August. He spent the day with the senior classes doing a talk first to all year five and six students. This was followed by a writers’ workshop for 24 lucky students . Everyone came away inspired and wanting to write.

He was very impressed with the Kapa Haka welcome from our students.

His books are available in the library if you want more inspiration and a great story to read.
