20 May 2010

Results are in and I am very pleased to see Old Hu-hu by Kyle Mewburn won the Picture book category award as well as the New Zealand Post children’s book of the year for 2010.
The illustrations are beautiful and many classes shared this delightful and thought provoking book during their library visits.
The wonky donkey  by Craig Smith won children’s choice but if you want to find out the rest of the results check out the Booksellers website.

Brian Falkner entertains at National Library

It was great to spend Friday at National Library celebrating events  as  part of New Zealand Post Book Awards. Winners of the Canterbury competitions spent time with children’s book writer Brian Falkner. He had students writing in teams for games of story sports. It was magic to see the students thinking quickly and coming up with great opening lines of stories.

We wish Brian Falkner luck on his nominated book The tomorrow code.  Check out some of his other books in the library. Have a look at his website as well.
