It was great to spend Friday at National Library celebrating events as part of New Zealand Post Book Awards. Winners of the Canterbury competitions spent time with children’s book writer Brian Falkner. He had students writing in teams for games of story sports. It was magic to see the students thinking quickly and coming up with great opening lines of stories.
This link came my way recently and is great for making sure we pronounce author names correctly.

We have many children eagerly reading their six books as part of the Reading Crusade. Just because the challenge is nearly over doesn’t mean you stop reading. There are some wonderful new books in the library and I have added a few more fun sites to play around with on the library blog.
Check out the author and illustrator sites for the latest additions. Four of our children were invited to visit Fendalton Public Library to meet two of the Crusaders rugby players. The children were buzzing with excitement and delighted with their goody bag and signed autographs from Jonathan Poff and Tim Batemen.
Wow!
Hilary and Meredith Badger just blew us all away with their talk about writing. All eyes were on the authors as they discussed how they came up with stories, characters and spy names. Everyone now wants to be a spy. I have had to purchase more books for the library because there are so many eager readers waiting for the next book to read. The authors were mobbed afterwards. A wonderful experience for the children but the authors were equally impressed by the FOS welcome from the Kapa Haka team.
Hello everyone.
It is great to be back in school. We have lots of exciting things happening in the library this term. For the seniors we are incredibly lucky to have two amazing authors visiting us next week. We have H.I. Larry – the author the Zac Power books. We also have Meredith Badger the author of many of the Go Girl books. Can’t wait!
We are also participating in the Reading Crusade. That’s where you get to read six books of your choice to try and win prizes but also to receive a certificate signed by the Crusaders Rugby Team. And that’s just for starters.
